The title translates to Little Deaths: the French believe you die a little and you’re reborn during certain encounters. I just so happen to be very fascinated with the phrase and its meaning and relates it to so many aspect of human victories. Like how its darkest before dawn. This piece is me making art that is just about tranquility and how peace comes with certain deaths, which is evident in the figure itself in that she could either be interpreted as dead or asleep (or at peace)

Artist: Paschal Ugwu

Work: Not for Sale
36 by 60 inches • Medium: Acrylic on canvas. Year: 2025
This painting draws from my own experience with land grabbers who tried to take advantage of me during a difficult time. The woman in the work carries a sign that reads “Not for Sale”—a symbol of resistance, not just against exploitation of land, but also against the wider attempts to buy dignity, silence voices, or strip people of their worth. Her stance speaks both for my story and for many others who have had to say, firmly, that their value cannot be traded.

Deolu Femi - Ten Ten Deolu Femi - Ten Ten

Artist: Deolu Femi

Work: Ten Ten
36 by 48 inches • Medium: Paper Layering (2D relief sculpture) Cardstock and acrylic. Year: 2025
This piece, “Ten Ten” is part of a series titled “Before PlayStation and Xbox” inspired by the traditional African games we played as children long before screens took over. It is part of a broader exploration of memory, identity, and cultural continuity. These games, once echoing through schoolyards and dusty home environments, were not just acts of play but, living archives of who we are, movements passed down, songs sung with belonging, laughter and joy.
This piece revisit the overlooked yet profound narratives found in everyday childhood experiences. It challenges the extinction of indigenous expressions and restate that truth is not only found in grand histories or official records, but also in the intimate acts of play, the chants of children, and the games that shaped our sense of self and community.
By memorializing these moments through hand-cut paper, I seek to preserve and elevate the truths embedded in African childhood, reclaiming them not as nostalgia but as cultural knowledge, vital, vibrant, and worthy of reflection.

Work: With the Touch of Our Hands
35 by 71 inches • Medium: Giclee Archival Canvas Print 400gsm (10 Editions, 2 APs). Year: 2024
This piece is a surrealist appropriation of Michelangelo’s Creation of Adam. In the creation process, I reflected on the ways we, as humans, continually spark authenticity, creativity, and innovation within one another.
The moment of touch becomes a divine transmission, suggesting a spiral (cycle) of shared energy, a reminder that creation does not particularly move in a straight line but radiates outward.
At its core, the work speaks to the truth that we are creators ourselves, just as we were created. The ‘touch’ we have received from a higher force and that which we receive from one another is what keeps imagination alive, extending the act of genesis into the present moment and beyond.

Awolaja Raymond - Gold mine Awolaja Raymond - Gold mine

Artist: Awolaja Toluwalase Raymond

Work: Gold Mine
48 by 60 inches • Medium: Mixed Media on Canvas. Year: 2024
GOLD MINE: A Vision of Sustainable Wealth
The painting "GOLD MINE" is a vibrant, profound message urging a shift toward sustainable living. Set against a dramatic ultramarine sky, the scene is intricately outlined with metallic gold lines, transforming industrial wreckage into a landscape of potential.
The central figure, a young boy, is the embodiment of this new vision. He holds up a translucent, glowing piece of salvaged material, a burst of orange and yellow light, as if it were the most precious jewel. He sees not trash, but raw potential, challenging the viewer's notion of value.
The gold lined debris, including the remains of a vehicle and machinery, represents the waste of the old consumer culture. Amidst this detritus, a smaller, contemplative boy sits, grounding the scene and highlighting the environment that a new generation must navigate and transform. The painting insists that the true "gold mine" lies in the human ability to recognize, repurpose, and utilize what the previous generation overlooked.
This artwork is a powerful call to action: raising a generation that is not blind to the value in waste, but one that is equipped to mine brilliance from the byproduct and secure a more resourceful future.

Work: Arìnrìn àjò

Here’s the English rendering of your Yoruba-inspired poem, keeping the imagery, rhythm, and reflective tone intact: Arìnrìn Àjò – The Sojourner Sojourner, child of the earth, Your feet sing upon life’s stage, Like the circle that turns around, Like the noon that yields to dusk. Life is a marketplace— We come to buy, we come to sell, None will remain forever, Like the breeze that drifts, Like the river flowing to the sea. The child who cries at the earth’s entrance Is tomorrow’s custodian, The elder who smiles in quiet rest Leaves behind wisdom as gift. Let us make of the journey, love’s practice, Let us make of the journey, wisdom’s guide, For life circles like a book of many pages, The sojourner knows it has no end. At twilight, we return to the heavenly King, To make of our tale an offering, To let our wandering be rich with meaning, That we may stand as witness to life’s circle.

Work: Whispers of Bloom
38 by 36 inches • Medium: Oil and pastel on canvas. Year: 2025
In this self portrait, it captures an intimate moment of stillness and sensory immersion , moment of interaction between self and environment that transcends time and space.
The female figure, leaning forward with a wide smile, both palms cupping her cheeks, caught in a moment of stillness as she inhales the fragrance of newly bloomed white hibiscus flower. Her gesture carries an expression of childlike wonder, yet the figure is framed against a background that subtly challenges that innocence.
The warm, swirling hues of reds and yellow envelop the canvas, drawing the viewer into a space that feels both serene and emotionally charged. The figure, though grounded and calm, is placed in a vast landscape where distant buildings and trees fade into the horizon, suggesting the constant march of time and the impermanence of the moment. The swirling sky above introduces an undercurrent of turbulence, as if the figure’s peaceful moment is in stark contrast to the chaos of the world around her.
The title, acts as a paradox. The word "whisper" evokes subtlety and quietude, but the “bloom” is vivid, transient, and full of life. I wanted to capture an inherent tension here, a contradiction of the figures calm in an environment that depicts constan shifts and changes. The figure’s absorption in the flowers and the tactile joy she experiences contrasts sharply with the vast, swirling emotional landscape surrounding her. Is she unaware of the broader world, or does she deliberately choose to focus on this fragile, beautiful moment?
This piece is a reflection on life’s fleeting beauty, the impermanence of moments, and the tension between innocence and awareness. The viewer is prompted to consider the complexity of being human, our need for connection, our pursuit of quiet, and the constant backdrop of emotional turbulence that surrounds us. It is a call to embrace fleeting moments of peace.

Tranquility is a visual meditation on stillness and the quiet beauty found in surrender. Created using dyed fabric impressions, the piece captures an underwater-like calm-where movement feels suspended and time slows down. Deep blues and hints of soft light invite the viewer inward, encouraging a pause, a breath, and a reconnection with self. This work is part of my ongoing exploration into how color and texture can hold emotion and memory without the need for form or figure.
